Use the scroll wheel to scroll horizontally and vertically.
Microsoft High-Definition Technology
Whether you're working on a document, perusing a Web page, or playing the latest video game, you can enhance your performance with the Comfort Mouse 3000's high-definition technology. It delivers more precision and responsiveness while offering smoother tracking on more surfaces than ever before. To put it simply, it's the most advanced tracking system available.

Full Tilt
Scroll up and down and side to side more smoothly, efficiently, and easily with the innovative four-way tilt wheel. It's simply a more efficient way to navigate documents, spreadsheets, and Web pages. The entire scroll wheel tilts from side to side, acts as a button, and reacts to how quickly you roll the wheel to enable smooth, accurate maneuverability. For example, if you're working with a super-wide worksheet, you can tilt the wheel from side to side to scroll right and left, without clicking tiny scroll arrows.

All Hands Welcome
Lefties rejoice! The Comfort Mouse 3000 is made to be used in either hand, making it highly versatile. No matter which hand you use, customizable buttons offer quick access to the media, programs, and files you use most often.

neither wheel nor single side button function with native microsoft XP drivers2010-03-082 / 5
Neither wheel [double] click, nor mid right side red button function. Without shipping *bloatware* "drivers", the only way I use keyboards- and mice, ZERO buttons function as expected other than left- and right-click, and wheel scroll and click-drag-scroll.

It does not amuse me to install bloatware to be able to use the scroll wheel as a button in windows, scrolling functions clicking does not, or to be able to use the one red, right side button [on the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 I bought in combination with this Microsoft Natural Ergo Keyboard 4000]. The microsoft XP Pro SP3 native driver does not offer this feature. HOWEVER the native drivers picked for my Razer DiamondBack InfraRed Laser mouse has ALL buttons working out-of-the-box in XP.

Only the scrolling feature of the wheel functions -- no middle click. However click-n-drag [wheel] does function as expected

While somewhat comfortable those with small hands will more likely be pleased as it feels almost like a notebook mouse.

I realize the Razer DiamondBack is ORDERS of magnitude superior to this mouse -- this mouse is not a replacement for any Razer mouse, but native windows support for the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 is SEVERELY LACKING.

I highly recommend the Razer DiamondBack InfraRed Laser mouse

I only use wired peripherals. Wireless does not amuse me. I have ZERO tolerance for mouse jitter- or otherwise aberrant behavior.

Whenever possible I buy from listings with "shipped by " to Effect customer *service*. The two jacksons and two washingtons I spent was worth it to me. Stores with perverse shipping rates- or terms are more often than not disinterested in your happiness pre-sales or after receipt of item. Kudos to for assuring customer satisfaction.

At Win XP Pro EOL I shall NOT be "upgrading" to Win7 so I can only hope OSX will inherit the functionality. When the next windows is NOT built with hollywood fascism in mind I might consider it if I have not already abandoned microsoft for apple -- the latter will easily run XP in VM.
Bad wheel2010-02-112 / 5
Wheel of the mouse doesn't work well, even after I installed the software. It cannot zoom in and zoom out pictures, which could be done by the wheel on any other mouse.
Not a good mouse2010-02-112 / 5
Pros: The mouse part works as well as the 2 top buttons and the side button.
Con: Mouse wheel it hard to push down. There is not tactile click of the wheel to indicate amount of movement.

Con pt2: The scroll wheel button become so hard to push that I had to resign the Middle Click to the side.
Final Verdict: Avoid!
Comfortable, decent size and accurate, but...2010-02-074 / 5
I've had two of the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 that I purchased from a retail store. The mouse has a decent size and weight which makes it comfortable, easy and accurate to use for all of the applications I've thrown at it. From detailed photo editting and content creation to gaming and general web browsing, I've never encountered a scenerio where the device has failed me. Even on my very worn and rugged desk surface where I use the mouse without a mousepad, it tracks accurately and smoothly.

My only issue with this particular device is that both of the mice I have owned have had problems with the click function of the center button/scroll wheel. I had always assumed that the mice I had purchased a retail store had been abused by passersby and had been damaged, which is why I never complained or requested warranty service. However, upon reading the reviews of others, this appears to be a somewhat common issue with this model of mouse. I've avoided any frustration with this minor annoyance by simply re-assigning the 4th (side) button to act as a middle button thereby duplicating the functionality.

All in all, I'm satisfied with the product; which is why I've owned two of them.
Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 30002010-01-045 / 5
I first purchased this mouse about 3 years ago and never had any problems with it, especially considering that I was not particularly gentle with it. When traveling, I often stick it into a backpack along with heavy textbooks and the last time I did this the magnifying button broke (so I would suggest not doing this), leading me to buy another one. When I first got both mice, I did find that the wheel did not scroll very smoothly at first, but after using it for a while it loosens up. I especially love this mouse for the magnifying button on the side. I also find that it is a very good size - not too big or small. I read another review about not being able to rest fingers on the buttons without them clicking, but I never had that problem with my previous mouse or with the one I just bought. Overall, I find this product to be very inexpensive, durable, user friendly and comfortable.
