This has to be the lowest quality device I have ever seen. It is garbage and, if you don't believe me and buy it anyway, check the return policy very carefully. The company I bought it from doesn't accept returns. I can understand why.

I read many of the reviews prior to purchasing this record player and recorder from Crosley. Yes, the reviews were mixed. However, I considered what exactly the reviewers were looking for in this machine and what they apparently expected. I'm not an audiophile. I'm just a regular person who:
1. wanted to be able to play my record albums again, 2. didn't want to re-buy all those records in CD form, 3. couldn't stand listening to the same 25 CDs at work over and over and over again and 4. wanted to listen to music I like in my car (instead of the 3 limited range radios stations there are around here).
For me, this machine is perfect. It's easy to make the CDs, it's compact enough to fit in my small living room, it matches my furniture and I can actually buy replacement needles (unlike my 1986 Fisher system - impossible to find a new needle). No, it doesn't blast loudly enough to wake the neighbors. Yes, it's not inexpensively priced - but I had a couple of gift certificates so it made it reasonable. I made some CDs for friends and they were amazed at how well the CDs turned out. Whatever reviewer said that received a bad one that "the knob looked like a dog chewed it" must've bought a used one because mine arrived in perfect condition. |

I thought this unit sounded like a great idea and looked like a handsome piece of furniture to boot. But what these guys did was take a great idea and opted to make it cheap. Way cheap. The arm on the turntable feels like the one from the toy I had as a kid. Lightweight cheap plastic. And it plays fast. I managed to burn a few casettes to cd but the sound quality is garbage. Then one day I go to burn my wife's childhood nursery rhyme casettes to cd and it starts eating the tape! These tapes play fine in every other casette player I own. Now the casette function doesn't fast forward or rewind and when I try to play any casette this piece eats 'em like it hasn't had a meal in weeks. Also for some reason it turns on when I press the subtitle button on the remote for my dvd player. Way annoying. I'll never buy Crosley again. Avoid this like the plague. Read some of these other reviews too. I paid way more for this a year ago and expected a much higher quality. Thumbs down. Booh!

The sound quality is marginal, due to the cheesy speakers. Some type of dynamic indication of how much disk space is available would be extremely helpful. But generally I am pleased with it since it's the only one I have.

I don't recommend this product to anyone. It is easy to use, however, the sound is horrible. It is noisy and has a loud humming sound to the finished CD. Also, the background is horrible. The first one I bought I returned because I couldn't even hear the songs on the CD. the second one is a tiny bit better, but it still very disappointing. I am not planning on using it much. I haven't even tried the cassette player yet. It has one thing for it. The cabinet is pretty! DON"T BUY IT!!!
