Not enough bang for the buck2009-11-043 / 5
This is a convenient little dock, but it really doesn't provide the sound quality I expect from speakers priced at this level. I've had computer speakers around the size of the two included here, and they all outperform this Logitech unit in depth and range. Sure, there's a bass booster switch, but it just takes the fairly tinny sound of the unit and adds a little bottom.

On the positive side, the unit has a small footprint, making it easy to fit into one corner or another on my crowded kitchen counters. It's very lightweight (probably why the sound quality is so weak), so it's easy to move around--though I'm not totally confident that the unit will prove itself to be durable. Time will tell.

It's very easy to use. There's hardly anything to it. There's the dock itself. I use an iPod Touch, which fits and balances nicely on the dock. I just wish the space were a little bigger so I wouldn't have to remove the shell. The protective shell I use is not really that thick, but it just doesn't fit. Not that big a deal, though, I guess. There's an on/off toggle button with an LED power indicator. That feature is neat and simple and does the trick. And there are two buttons for up/down volume control. They feel firm enough to the touch even while the whole unit has a fairly cheap plastic feel to it. And then there's the bass booster button. That's all there is on the face, and that keeps it simple and easy to operate. I haven't used the auxiliary connector on the back, but that's a good feature, too.

The Logitech Portable Speaker S125i is light and compact with a sound that could use more...sound. Not bad, but I hope for more at this price.
Very nice for what it is2009-11-045 / 5
I am quite pleased with this little speaker set. Recently, I had cause to go speaker shopping, looking for a good iPod speaker for my niece's graduation. She was very specific in what she wanted for her dorm: a lightweight, movable speaker that would charge with decent sound. This would have filled the bill beautifully.

Note that I'm not calling this "portable," as it bills itself. It *is* portable...you can move it from one room to another...but for real portability, you'd want a sturdier unit for cradling your expensive iPod--a boombox with a good handle. A speaker set like this is best settled place to place for a while...parked in an office or bedroom and moved periodically, but not really carried around. The iPod isn't that secure (at least, mine isn't).

Also, the sound is not huge. The bass booster is a nice feature that makes this unit feel more powerful than it is, but it is really intended for small spaces. It's got decent volume, but in a large room it's going to get lost. It's not your party music player, either; just a nice, compact personal player.

For ease of use, I've got little cause to complain, but we had a bit of trouble settling the 80 gb iPod video we tested in it. In fact, for one disappointing moment, I thought we weren't going to be able to get it to work--no sound at all. We soon found that our iPod seated better without any adapter, and while it isn't as stable as I would like (again, if it were truly portable), it plays just fine.

If what you're looking for is a very compact, charger speaker that is well suited to small spaces, then this one could be a good contender. I believe it has decent sound in comparison to other units of its size and price point. If you're looking for true mobility, you should consider getting a boombox instead. And remember that sometimes you *do* get what you pay for. There are certainly units with better sound. My husband's Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Compact Speaker system for iPod is undeniably better (though larger and more than twice the price). And my Altec Lansing inMotion portable system is an entirely different class...at many times the cost.

But for my 12 year old son, this is ideal. I suspect my college-bound niece would have been pleased as well.
Good, not great2009-10-153 / 5
Pros:
1) Portability. It's pretty small, and would work well if you wanted something to travel with.
Also, it looks good. It's not clunky, and sits in my bathroom using minimal shelf space.
2) Charging ability. I also have an Altec ipod speaker, which I like for travel (it's smaller than this one) but it doesn't charge. I find that every iPod I've bought loses it's life gradually as the months go by. I'm 9 months into my iPod touch, and I need to charge it nightly. So, for overnight trips, this speaker is useful because it plugs in. It also runs on batteries if you don't want a cord, which is nice.

Cons:
1) Really, only one, and it's the most important one. The sound. I'm no audiophile, but I know crappy sound quality when I hear it. The music is kinda tinny. Also, the volume doesn't go nearly high enough to really fill a room (which is one reason I keep it in my bathroom). Yet, even in my bathroom, when the shower is on, I can't hear the music that well, and it doesn't sound that good. For this reason, I generally only listen to spoken work on it (mostly podcasts) because I don't care that much about music quality if I'm just listening to someone speaking.

Ultimately, if you're looking for a small, compact speaker, I'd go with the Altec, especially if you want better sound. But if you need something small, and you need it to charge too, then this one will do, providing you aren't that concerned with sound quality.
Surprisingly Obvious2009-10-145 / 5
Logitech have a way of seeing what is needed in any given area and bringing it to fruition. Hence the Logitech
Portable Speakers are the most obvious product for personal use in this kind of area. I have a 2 dollar radio about
the same size as this unit, and whilst it is not as sturdy, it has lasted. Most products will last if taken care of, and Logitech's products are no exception to this rule, however, since they are somewhat,in fact a great deal more sturdy, than my old radio. The comparable product in quality is the old style Shelf Speaker popular in the 80's, called the brick, but this unit does not have the weight of that product. The speakers perform very well, and with the bass boost, the sound fills outs exceedingly well. For a small, portable , unit, this allows you to listen to, as well as share Ipod music, and podcasts, in an intimate setting. An excellent product with excellent and typically superb Logitech production values.
Excellent Low Cost System2009-10-135 / 5
These speakers sound great for a system in this price range and better than many systems in very higher price ranges. The unit works well with all the latest iPods. It is capable of being used with battery power. The unit seems to charge all 4th, 5th, 6th, and seventh generation ipods without problems. Highly recommended for anybody on a budget who wants a faily good sounding set of speakers to take along on a trip.
